Neighbors

In the department of chemotherapy for leukemia and pathology of erythron the patients are various. It's said that in the hematological centre there is a special department for patients with acute leukemia but there was no room. The patients are of all ages, from teenagers to elders, and of both sexes. The department isn't very big but the patients are mostly confined in sterilized wards so they only meet each other at the fridges. Sometimes it's possible to meet the neighbor's eyes from the opposite ward: the doors of the wards are made of glass and only one half is painted. Once Lesha noticed that in the opposite ward appeared a new neighbor who watched Lesha with great interest through the glass windows. Lesha shared this piece of news with us and we also started to watch the neighbor together. "Is he standing?" "Where is he?" "He has gone somewhere" Lesha was too sick to stand up so I constantly ran to look at the neighbor. And a few months later Lesha was moved to another ward and they shared it with that neighbor. Frankly speaking at that time he wasn't very interested in us. He laid peacefully and a platoon of soldiers arrived to give him blood since some of his relatives was in the army.

In the evening, if you turn down the volume of the TV, you can hear awful moans or, on the contrary, somebody laughing. Once an extraordinary couple appeared. They cried loudly, quarreled and moaned. It turned out that they were a mother and son from Vladivostok. Probably, there was no place in Moscow for his mother to stay and she lived in the hospital. Obviously, those two people couldn't bear each other. We could hear "I hate you!", "I want to die!", the noise of falling objects and cries. The nurse said that the guy had a very strange diction and psychological problems. Once the boy ran away and nobody could find him. They had already thought of calling the police but he returned safe and sound, smelling of alcohol. The guy's mother made friends with the neighbors, solved crosswords and read anecdotes in their wards. Soon her catchy laugh could be heard here and there. The nurses also said that there was a patient with a dropper in one ward who used to be a flight controller. He was delirious and thought that an airplane was falling and he had to do something. So he jumped out of his bed with the dropper and wanted to run to save the passengers. He was very frightened because people could die and it would have been his fault. The nurse had to stay at his ward since they were also afraid that he would die because of the things he did. They are frightened. This is how things are.
